UPDATED · 2026-05-13

As of May 12, the Virginia Department of Health reports the traveller remains symptom-free and in good health under active public health monitoring; the tracking window is 42 days, consistent with the virus incubation period. The previously flagged group of 'fewer than five' other potentially exposed Virginians has not expanded into named additional cases in public reporting through May 13, and the department continues to withhold demographic detail to protect privacy

UPDATED · 2026-05-11

VDH May 7 statement confirms the resident disembarked the ship before the outbreak was identified, returned home, is in good health, and is under public health symptom monitoring; VDH withheld all demographic detail to protect privacy. State Health Commissioner Dr. B. Cameron Webb said the resident has been in touch with the local health district and shows no symptoms. VDH applies the standard 4-42 day hantavirus incubation window for symptom watch. As of the May 11 Omaha airlift coverage, Virginia is still counted among five US states monitoring previously-disembarked passengers; the fewer than five additional Virginians flagged on May 7 has not materialized as new identified cases, and other potentially exposed Americans were instead routed through the Nebraska repatriation
