Santa Clara County Public Health Department confirmed the California resident is a Bay Area / Santa Clara County resident who has returned home; identity withheld under medical-privacy laws. The passenger disembarked the MV Hondius at St. Helena on 2026-04-24 along with about 30 other passengers and has remained asymptomatic. Monitoring, coordinated with CDPH and CDC, includes twice-daily symptom and temperature checks and, per UCSF infectious-disease specialist Dr. Peter Chin-Hong, possible PCR testing for hantavirus twice weekly through the 6-to-8-week incubation window. Santa Clara County Health Officer Dr. Sarah Rudman stated there is no known risk to the public in Santa Clara County
