On May 9, the Royal Air Force executed an airdrop onto Tristan da Cunha after the island's medical oxygen reserves ran low: six paratroopers from 16 Air Assault Brigade, a consultant doctor, an ICU nurse, and approximately 3.3 tonnes of palleted medical supplies (including oxygen) were delivered. No medical evacuation is planned; he remains hospitalised on the island. The UK Health Security Agency's May 13 update describes him as 'supported and monitored by health services on the island.' A confirmatory lab test has not been publicly reported

WHO Disease Outbreak News (May 8) describes him as an adult male who disembarked the ship at Tristan da Cunha on April 14, with onset April 28 (diarrhoea, followed two days later by fever). He is reported stable and in isolation, classified by WHO as a probable case pending laboratory confirmation

UKHSA describes him as 'an additional suspected case of a British national on Tristan da Cunha.' The Tristan da Cunha government confirms one islander hospitalised with spouse isolating; four other islanders who travelled on the ship are now on St Helena. Authorities state risk to the wider Tristan population remains low; no other on-island cases identified

[Created 2026-05-04] Adult British male, resident of Tristan da Cunha (a British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic with a population of about 245). The MV Hondius stopped at Tristan da Cunha April 13-15, during which approximately 114 passengers came ashore for nature tours and visited local shops and the pub. He disembarked the ship on April 14 and developed symptoms (diarrhoea, followed two days later by fever) on April 28. Hospitalised on-island in the territory's small medical facility; his spouse in isolation. Whether transmission occurred from ship passengers during the port visit or from independent rodent exposure is not yet known
