Per the French Health Ministry on May 13, all 22 French close contacts have been moved into Paris hospitals under a reinforced 15-day minimum hospitalisation protocol (three adolescents are at Pitie-Salpetriere). Among the 22, four schoolchildren tested negative with no symptoms; results for the remaining 18 were pending until May 14. Health Minister Stephanie Rist said there are 'no elements in favor of widespread virus circulation' on French territory. Reinforced surveillance continues for up to 42 days

UPDATED · 2026-05-11

As of May 11 2026, the French Health Ministry count of 22 French high-risk contacts identified in the outbreak includes the 8 close contacts from Airlink flight 4Z132 (St Helena-Johannesburg, April 25 2026), with the remaining 14 traced to the onward KLM Johannesburg-Amsterdam leg. The symptomatic French contact from the Airlink flight remains in isolation with diagnostic testing in progress; no nationality-disaggregated test results from this specific flight cohort have been released in May 9-11 reporting

ORIGINAL ENTRY

French national, 1 of 8 French close contacts identified. Currently in isolation with benign symptoms. Exposure was on the AIRLINK Saint Helena to Johannesburg flight — a DIFFERENT flight from KL592. This is the third flight exposure event in this outbreak (after KL592 and the Alicante case flight). If confirmed positive, this would further support flight-based ANDV transmission. 7 additional French nationals being monitored. Sources: French Health Ministry via Euronews (Tier 1). Updated 2026-05-09: Tested NEGATIVE for hantavirus per French Ministry of Health (reported around May 7-8, 2026); had been placed in isolation after developing mild/'benign' symptoms following the April 25 AIRLINK flight from Saint Helena to Johannesburg. The other 7 French contacts were individually contacted by regional health agencies (ARS), offered temporary isolation and access to testing; no confirmed cases reported among them as of May 8
